Why many Russian trainers prefer to train foreign figure skaters?

East philosophy, raising work to a cult.

Trainer Nikolay Morozov, once supporting Belarus together with Tatyana Navka, and created the well-known program «Winter» for Alexey Yagudin, helped Japanese figure skater Shizuka Arakawa to win a gold medal on Olympic Games-2006 in Turin, and now is training the world champion of 2007 Miki Ando.

— Asian girls have ideal figure for figure skating: a little crooked legs and explosive muscles, — considers Morozov. — Their gravity centre is lower, that facilitates the jumps performance. They are also disciplined: when you tell them what to do, they just listen and do. East philosophy raising work to a cult promotes the success very much. Trainer Raphael Arutyunyan began to train Japanese Mao Asada.

«It is even good, that the majority of experts work abroad»

The American skaters Tanit Belbin and Benjamin Agosto are trained by Russian experts Igor Shpilband, the world champion among juniors in the past, and Marina Zueva, former skater in group of trainer Elena Chaykovskaya. Andrey Berezintsev and Alexey Yagudin worked with the single skating champion Bryan Zhuber.

— It is even good, that the majority of experts work abroad, — Alexey Yagudin considers. — We do not train competitors only, but we also learn from Americans, Canadians, Frenchmen.

«Our sportsmen were in demand in America»

Their own school in America had our eminent trainers Tatyana Tarasova and Moskvin spouse. But they returned home. Nevertheless, admitted the trainer, they liked to work in America:

— Igor Borisovichem and I should have advertised a skating rink near New York, and our sportsmen could have trained there. For our figure skaters: Elena Berezhnaya, Anton Siharulidze, Oksana Kazakova and Arthur Dmitriev it was more convenient to live there too. No flights, just training for the Olympic Games, and when the Olympic Games passed, they could participate in the American shows like Stars on Ice and Champions on Ice. They were in demand there. — Igor Borisovich (Tamara Moskvina's husband, well-known trainer Igor Moskvin. — «Reporter» comments) and I have faced absolutely exploitative treatment of the American sportsmen, — complained Moskvina. —They come, pay money, do what they should, and that's all. Americans do not care what happens later.

But that's just the point, that achievements in sports are impossible without victims. You should put your heart and soul. Americans ask: «Why should I adapt to somebody?» And we had to learn them by any ways, exercises to think not only about themselves, but also about those, who are near.

Great victories of great figure skaters

On the Games of 1964 in Innsbruck (Austria) Lyudmila Belousova and Oleg Protopopov's duet won “gold” in pair figure skating. They managed to repeat their success on the Olympic Games of 1968 in Grenoble (France). On winter Games of 1972 in Sapporo (Japan) Alexey Ulanov together with Irina Rodnina got the highst award. And in 1976 in Innsbruck (Austria) Irina Rodnina celebrated a victory together with Alexander Zaytsev. Besides, Alexander Gorshkov and Lyudmila Pakhomova took “gold” in ice dancing. Irina Rodnina and Alexander Zaytsev did not concede the first place in Lake-Placid (USA) in 1980, and Gennady Karponosov and Natalia Linichuk were the best in ice dancing. Ilya Kulik, Arthur Dmitriev in a duet with Oksana Kazakova (pair skating), and also Oksana Grishchuk and Evgeny Platov (ice dancing) brought the highest award to Russian team again on the Olympic Games in Nagano (Japan) in 1998. In 2002 in Salt-Lake-City (USA) Alexey Yagudin, Elena Berezhnaya and Anton Siharulidze (pair figure skating) owned the higher step of a podium. In 2006 on the Games in Turin (Italy) Evgeny Plyushchenko, Tatyana Totmyanina and MaximMarinin (pair figure skating), Roman Kostomarov with Tatyana Navka (ice dancing) won “gold”. Besides, in woman's single skating Irina Slutskaya took  «bronze». On the Olympic Games in Vancouver (Canada) in 2010 Evgeny Plyushchenko managed to take “silver” and Oksana Domnina together with Maxim Shabalin took «bronze».
