The creative project would gather under the same roof sport artifacts and tell about competitive culture of Russia's antique era. Presently they all are diluted in the vaults of various museums, states Valery Chesnok, the archeological museum-reserve «Tanais» senior research scientist, having suggested creating the Olympic museum in Sochi.

The «Olympic reporter» supported Valery Chesnok and published in magazine №3 his open letter to the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev. There came an answer to the editors office from the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation in response to the publication: «Ministry of Culture is supporting the idea of public demonstration of antique masterpieces from the collections of the federal and regional museums of Russian Federation, spreading ancient Olympic traditions, especially during the preparation and holding of the Winter Games -2014 in Sochi».

«What makes the Olympic museum worse than snow leopards?»

— Valery Fedorovich, there has been opened the exhibition «Russian Olympic Route» in Krasnodar historical archeological museum-reserve. Is it somehow connected with the Olympic Museum?

—This is some kind of sketch of future Olympic museum. But firstly it happened in Tanais — there are represented artifacts found on the Don land mostly. One of the brightest stations of the Olympic route is Elizabeth's ancient settlement. where panathenaea amphora had been found. Now it is kept in the Hermitage collection. There are also two similar Kuban amphoras there. The fact of such discovery proves, that our people took part in Panathenaea and won prizes.

— So, You wrote an open letter to the president. And did you try to get low rank heads' attention?

— I thought this way: a small-town official may be afraid of taking the responsibility, a federal official will shrug his shoulders: what is the Olympic museum? I count on the new Russian Olympic committee president Alexander Zhukov. He is on his starting stage and he will be interested in new initiatives. — How your Olympic Museum plan was accepted in Sochi?

— Firstly, there was a very successful presentation of the book «The Saint olive branch or Gods and heroes of ancient stadiums in South of Russia» in Sochi. Secondly, there are also our like-minded people in Sochi. The Olympic museum should be a vast Olympic object indeed. Two thirds of the museum is to form playing field.

There could be simulated different ritual forms, connected with antique competitions and playing ancient sport games. Historical and natural part is planned for making the Saint grove. We found its analogue with growing laurels in one of the Sochi sanatoriums. It''s the ideal ground for the Olympic museum!

The Olympic route as a tour product

The Olympic theme — is a splendid opportunity for tourism development, considers Valery Chesnok. He suggested developing of the Olympic route: Tanais — Krasnaya Polyana with Stops in Elizabeth's ancient settlement, Taman, Anapa etc. Tour operators, the members of round table, organized by «MediaYug» publishing house, issuing the «Olympic reporter» magazine, were interested in the idea. «New touring product will be profitable both from the educational and also economic viewpoint. But it needs to be worked out in details and promotional campaign», thinks Tatyana Doschenko «Tatyana travel tour».

The general manager of tour-servicing company «Tihiy Don» Nadezhda Fomina would confide the new route program development to the scientific school representatives, for example, to the Southern Federal University (SFU). The tour operators, in their turn, would determine the audience, who will be interested in it. Valery Chesnok sees the Olympic route success only in cooperation with authorities: «Not only informative, but also organizational and adminiStrative parts are important».

100 amphoras for the winner

Ivan Nekrasov, the participant of the exhibition «Russian Olympic route», a ceramics collector:

— Valery Chesnok's idea has fallen on the fertile soil — the Olympic theme is actual now. The idea of the exhibition is to show the Greeks life, the Olympic games ancellors. Sport artifacts can be divided into three groups: spherical vessel without a leg - ariballes, alabasters, bombillies — there was kept the oil, which sportsmen used for rubbing in.

The second group is everyday ceramics with sport contest pictures — they show. that sport was close to every Greek. The third group are prizes. The tradition of handing in an amphora to the winner was made up in Athens. In other cities the wreaths were presented — of laurel, pine and even of celerity. The amphora-prizes were named the Panathenaian. all of them were of standard form: on the one side Athena, on another — a scene of competitions. There was the obligatory phrase specifying that this is a prize. There were also souvenirs for public — small amphorae and exact copies of prizes. Any interested person could buy them. However, the inscription was absent: it was clear that the amphora was bought, but not earned by sweat and blood.

We won't give our exhibit items to a stationary museum

Irina Melnikova, archeo-logical museum director in Anapa:

— The founding of the Olympic museum is a great idea. It continues the main idea of the Olympic movement — beauty, art, health. Of course, there should be not short-term exhibitions but a Stationary museum. I think, it should be situated in Anapa: it was our town, where competitions similar to the Olympic games were held. The items of our museum collection formed a main part at the exhibition  Russian Olympic route. We won't give our monuments for the Stationary museum. which will be situated in another city, of course. We have them here in State cuStody and we are not interested our expositions are denuded.
