Russia can spend money saved on building of sports objects and infrastructure on providing the territory of competitions with snow. The bitter experience of Vancouver makes us think about this problem very seriously.

«Preparing for the Olympic Games we have to take into account weather conditions. Life gives a lot of surprises. We have anomalously hot weather. Sometimes I feel as though I am in Italy or in Egypt, but not in Moscow exactly», — frankly told the president of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev at the meeting with heads of the international sports federations within the framework of the forum «Russia — is the sports power» in the end of July. Thus he expressed hope that visitors «were not tired of staying in hot Moscow climate and did not lose faith in our ability to spend winter Olympic Games». Now, Russian party developed the special program «Hot snow». It is carried on by Organizing committee «Sochi-2014» with involvement of the Norwegian and Italian experts.

The program presentation took place in the beginning of August during the visit of the head of the state to the mounting skiing resort «Rosa Khutor». As formulated the president of Organizing committee «Sochi-2014» Dmitry Chernyshenko, it «it is aimed at using all accessible technical arsenal including, snow generation at high temperatures», considering Vancouver lessons. It is not excluded that in connection with global warming, preparation of competitions-2014 would take more means, than it had been planned.

The snowsmiths

In 1980 organizers of the Olympic Games in Lake-Placid were the fir& who had to use artificial snow on mountain-skiing tracks by means of snow guns. Then it was spent more than$5 million for creating normal winter climate.

For Vancouver Games the representatives of the Canadian Organizing committee spent the same sum for artificial snow, as their American colleagues. Proceeding from foreign experience, the Sochi Organizing committee should add at least 160 million roubles to the expense sheet.
