Krasnodar region became the unconditional leader for the number of applications, Moscow and St.-Petersburg are the second and the third respectively. It is necessary to prepare about 25 thousand volunteers for the Sochi competitions: 20 thousand from them will work for the Olympic and 5 thousand — for Paralympic Games. Volunteer centers will be opened in the middle of 2011. The intake of students will take place in the beginning of 2012, teaching — in 2012-2013. According to the president of Organizing committee «Sochi-2014» Dmitry Chernyshenko, the Olympic Games become the catalyst of volunteer movement development in Russia. «Today, depending on the region from 2% to 9% of the population of the Russian Federation is involved in volunteer activity, and in Canada — up to 35%. Volunteers are motivated not by money, but by participating in important and interesting process

Alexander Gorbunov, a weekly journal «Sports day by day» observer:

— The notion «Olympic volunteer» was legalized by recently deceased long-term IOC president Juan Antonio Samaranch, during his speech in the native Barcelona on the Olympic Games-92. Likenobody else he understood doubtless advantages of volunteer movement. At first, it is serious economic help to organizers of competitions as expenses for volunteers are minimal. Secondly, it is an evident way of collective interaction of the big group of people on a disinterested basis, their civil participation in useful activity. And, at last, a condition of organizational irreproachability, which is reached due to the help of volunteers, motivated not by money, but by participating in important and interesting process. If there were about hundred of the firSt Olympic volunteers during the summer Olympic Games in Stockholm almost a century ago, in 1912, and they were entrusted mainly the delivery of mail and cleaning of territory, there were already 100 thousand of volunteer assistants in Beijing in 2008. During Moscow Olympic Games-80 military men of Statutory service, cadets of militian educational institutions, model Komsomol members wore volunteer sports suits. Representatives of all these categories had no any experience, they trained during the Games and, certainly, hadn't finished.

That trick won't work in Sochi. By all means, in the army of 75 thousand volunteers should be called up well trained young men with specialization in the main organizational areas typical for the Olympic Games: medicine, service, modern technologies, transport, accreditation and press centre work.
