From an outsider's viewpoint it seems, that the victory of Russia on the Sochi Olympic Games is forged by all country. But, actually, it is forged by less than dozen regions. The observer of «Olympic Reporter» decided to find out what are the conditions and basis for training of the champions-2014.

The higher Russian management has set an ambitious task to the home Sochi Olympic Games — to win team medal event. The hard work, called to change a situation for 180 degrees is in full swing in all our huge country today. «Olympic Reporter» asked the representatives of the regions of Russian Federation, having the nicest Soviet-Russian sports traditions, some questions: how much winter sports are developed in your region? What are the material resources for winter sports in your region? What are the chances of success for your sportsmen in Sochi-2014?

Chelyabinsk Region

Yury Serebrennikov, the minister of sports of Chelyabinsk region:

— Now 102 kinds of sports are developed in Chelyabinsk Region, including 17 winter kinds for more than 50 thousand people. The most popular are crosscountry skiing — 21 thousand people, ice hockey — about 5 thousand, skating — more than 1 thousand. We hope, that 15-20 people from Chelyabinsk Region will form a part of the Olympic team-2014. Good chances have skiers Svetlana Sidelnik, Marina Moskvina, Sergey Zelenkin and Yury Birmasov, snowboarders Alyona Kuleshova and Anastasiya Asanova, freestyler Egor Korotkov.

Krasnoyarsk Region

Sergey Gurov, the minister of sports, tourism and the youth policy of Krasnoyarsk region:

— The material resources for winter sports in Krasnoyarsk Region are the whole complex of objects. The largest of them are — the ski stadium «Vetluzhanka» constructed for winter Games of RSFSR-1982, the biathlon complex in Borodino. The Ice palace with 2,5-3 thousand seats is being constructed also. We plan building of five covered skating rinks with artificial ice in Krasnoyarsk, one — in Zheleznogorsk and one in Kansk. The main hopes of the Sochi Games are connected with biathlon, skeleton, bobsleigh, freestyle, snowboard. We shouldn't, probably, call the names three years prior to the event: candidates are both regional sports reserve of winter sports, and already established masters.

St.-Petersburg

Vyacheslav Chazov, the chairman of physical training and sports committee of St.-Petersburg:

— Our city has more than 100 objects for winter sports. Number of people going in for them is about 1 million. The Petersburg school of figure skating should «shoot» in Sochi — its is the best in the world, with good Olympic traditions and victories, with unique trainer's staff. Very talented youth grows among singles. They are, first of all, Gordey Gorshkov, trained by Evgeny Rukovitsyn, and Arthur Gachinsky, whose trainer is Alexey Mishin who also trained Evgeny Plyushchenko. We can call other kinds of sports where Petersburgers can delegate to a national team of athletes, — skating sports, cross-country skiing, biathlon, ice hockey, short-track.

Bashkortostan

Alexander Nikerin, the minister of youth policy and sports of Republic of Bashkortostan:

— 175 skiing bases, one biathlon complex and 5 ice palaces are working in republic today. Unique sports objects in Ufa, among which there is versatile sports arena «Ufa-Arena», are put into operation. Sports complex with artificial iceis being built in Sterlitamak and covered skating rinks with artificial ice are built in Sibay and Uchaly. The most probable applicants for preparation and participation in the Sochi Olympic Games from Bashkortostan: Maxim Chudov, Sergey Kugubaev, Tatyana Kazakova — biathlon, Dmitry Vasilyev, Ilmir Khazetdinov — ski jump, Sergey Maslennikov, Ernest Yakhin — biathlondouble, Elina Galieva — bobsleigh (skeleton), Leisan Rayanova — mountain skiing, Dmitry Danilov — freestyle, Christina Tsybina — skating, Semyon Elistratov, Ruslan Zakharov, Dmitry Myasnikov, Elmira Sharafutdinova — short-track.

Moscow Region

Sergey Pernikov, the chairman of physical training, sports, tourism and work with youth committee of Moscow Region:

— 4 regional Winter Sports Schools work in Moscow Region, 1793 people go there. And, in general, 16934 people in 80 schools go in for winter sports. Special pride is caused by up-to-date sports arenas of the European and world level: «Skating center of Moscow Region»Kolomna" in Kolomna, bobsleigh complex «Paramonovo» in Dmitrovsky municipal district, ice palace «Arena-Mytishchi» in Mytischi, all-weather covered sports complex «Snezh. com» in Krasnogorsk, track and field athletics stadium «Meteor» in Zhukovsky, the Palace of water sports «Ruza» in Ruza. First of all we hope for our skiers and skaters at the Sochi Olympic Games.

Nizhniy Novgorod Region

Victor Haritonov, the minister of sports and the youth policy of the Nizhniy Novgorod Region:

Cross-country skiing, ski-jump, biathlondouble, skating, short-track, hockey are developed in Nizhniy Novgorod Region. More than 10 thousand children and teenagers go to sports schools. 44 educational institutions of the region are completely equipped for playing sports and achievement of the highest results. It is early to speak about chances of our sportsmen in Sochi today, as there is no the list of possible candidates for a national team still. The four-year cycle of preparation, when sportsmen should pass through the severe selection for the right to represent our country at the home Olympic Games-2014 has begun.

Novosibirsk Region

Valery Yarov, the head of department of physical culture and sports of the Novosibirsk Region:

— About 12 thousand residents of the Novosibirsk region go in for winter sports, the most popular among them is cross-country skiing. There are 5 palaces with artificial ice in Novosibirsk, 57 skiing bases in the region, including 12 in countryside, and one biathlon complex, which will get the status of a complex of the highest category this year. 16 representatives of Novosibirsk Region in 4 kinds of sports are preparing now for the Olympic Games-2014. They are representatives of biathlon, cross-country skiing, snowboard and mountain skiing. There is a double Olympic biathlon champion Anna Bogaliy-Titovets in this list, who decided to continue sports career and is preparing for the fourth Games. The participants of the Olympic Games in Vancouver — mountain skier Sergey Maytakov and skier Alexey Chernousov will test their strength again
